In English

The Finnish Science Centre Association is a collaborative network of Finnish science centres and science museums established in 2020. Our network inspires diverse individuals and communities to engage with science and research. We enable open and equal access to scientific knowledge, scientific tools, and the rich heritage of science. We provide opportunities for meaningful participation in a safe community that fosters critical thinking and an inquisitive mindset.

The association and its members promote interaction between science and society through engaging and interactive science communication and education. The Finnish Science Centre Association brings together Finnish science centres and science museums into a network dedicated to researching and developing science centre practices. Its members are committed to fostering national science capital and strengthening science engagement through inclusive science centre work.

The Finnish Science Centre Association supports and develops forms of inclusive science communication and education through interdisciplinary approaches based on co-research, and citizen science, in collaboration with its member network and other partners.

The goal is to ensure open, inspiring, and engaging access to science and research-based knowledge for everyone.

Our Mission

Through our nationwide network, The Finnish Science Centre Association builds understanding of how the principles, tools, and content of science can be made accessible in an engaging and equitable way. At the same time, we build a research community that develops and experiments with new approaches and operating models, where everyone can participate.

Our network functions as an equal and creative community that pursues its purpose through a science-based approach – while respecting the diversity of both science and all forms of life. The concept of science capital serves as a key tool for identifying and reaching groups that may be at risk to be excluded from the world of science.

Our Vision

We strengthen the science capital of people in Finland through the resources and expertise of science centres so that current crises and future challenges can be addressed together. We aim to become an essential part of the national infrastructure for science communication, science education, and learning that supports the vitality of science and research. We are a trusted partner and a valued expert in diverse research and development projects.

Our Values

We are committed to inclusive science centre practices that respect the equal rights of people from diverse backgrounds to access research-based knowledge, the joy of learning. We promote critical thinking, multiple perspectives, and evidence-based decision-making both in Finland and internationally.
